Australian Catholic University’s Reconciliation Action Plan will commit our university to partner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, staff and stakeholders to develop a strong sense of community, strengthen our cultural identity and increase community wellbeing.
Incorporating welcoming and acknowledgement protocols into official meetings and events recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and custodians of their land. It promotes an awareness of the past and ongoing connection to place of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
There are a number of dates significant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that are commemorated within Australia today. These dates recognise and respect the unique cultural heritage of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their special relationship with the land and sea.
