Study overseas

If you want to see the world, we want to help you change the way you see it. Experience a new perspective by studying overseas for a few weeks, a semester or longer.

The world is your campus

Gain credit towards your degree while experiencing extraordinary things in extraordinary places. When you study overseas with us, you might find yourself teaching young children in Nepal, working with homeless people in Rome or touring literary landmarks in New York.

Study in Rome

Spend a few weeks studying at our Rome Campus. All of our students - regardless of their study area - have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Roman life while gaining valuable experience through lectures, community engagement and sightseeing tours.

Full semester exchanges

Spend a semester overseas and gain credit towards your ACU degree. We have more than 80 university exchange partners around the world for you to choose from, so start exploring.

Current ACU students can learn more about the process for going on exchange by visiting the Student Portal.

Can I go abroad with my degree?

Discuss your wish for an overseas adventure early with your course coordinator. Most students can study abroad for a semester, but there may be some restrictions depending on your course and its units, as well as accreditation and placement requirements. Your course coordinator can provide further advice on your international study options.

Students in these study areas can complete a full semester exchange:

  • Arts
  • Business
  • Global studies
  • Theology
  • Philosophy

If you're enrolled in the following study areas, there may be some restrictions on what units you can study overseas depending on accreditation and placement requirements:

  • Education
  • Law
  • Nursing
  • Psychology
  • Nutrition
  • Biomedical science
  • Exercise science

If you plan to study any other degree in the Faculty of Health Sciences, such as occupational therapy, paramedicine or physiotherapy, a semester exchange is not currently possible. There are not enough units available in these courses for you to study abroad for a full semester. However, students in these degrees may be able to undertake a short-term international study experience.

For more information on exchange partners, check out the list of our active Student Exchange International Partnerships.

Study the Core Curriculum overseas

You're more than your degree. That's why all our students study three Core Curriculum units, teaching you to look at the world with empathy, to listen, to lead and to have the courage to make an impact. Students have an opportunity to study a Core Curriculum unit overseas, including at our Rome Campus. There is no better place to practice these skills than studying overseas.

Locations offered include Rome, Beijing, New York and Leeds.

Program highlights and inclusions:

Study tours and short programs

Interested in going overseas but don't wish to do it for a full semester? Then a short-term program might be for you.

Short-term programs are available from two to six weeks, with most programs happening during the semester breaks. Upon commencing your degree, you can explore international opportunities by contacting your faculty.
