Getting to North Sydney

It’s easy to travel to our North Sydney Campus. There are many trains, buses, cycling and walking routes passing close by. The choice is yours.

North Sydney Station is on the well-serviced Northern and North Shore train lines. To plan your trip to North Sydney Station, we recommend that you use the Transport NSW Trip Planner.

North Sydney Campus is an easy walk from North Sydney Station. To get there, walk through the Greenwood Plaza and up the escalators until you come out at the Miller Street and Pacific Highway intersection. From there, turn left up Mount Street and then right down Edward Street.

Opal is the smartcard ticketing system used to pay for travel on public transport in Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, the Hunter and the Illawarra.

If you've checked out your available sustainable transport options but have chosen to drive, see our parking information below.

There is no parking on campus for students at any time, other than very limited facilities for students with disabilities (temporary or permanent).

On-street parking is not available Monday to Friday within easy walking distance of the University. Students are requested to use public transport.

Limited-time metered parking and paid parking stations are located in the North Sydney CBD.

Arrangements for disabled parking can be made by calling MacKillop Reception through 1300 ASK ACU (275 228).

An access ramp from upper-level parking to the James Carroll Building is provided for ease of entry. There is also a lift inside the James Carroll Building with access to all levels. For access to Level 1 of the library, contact the Disability Advisor on +61 2 9739 2370.

We all know that physical activity is good for your health, studies and general wellbeing. The easiest way to get active is to incorporate walking into your everyday activities, such as your journey to campus.

Visit North Sydney Council's Walking North Sydney page for more information and maps.

Riding to work or university is a great way to get fit, save time and money and do your bit to help the environment. The Ride the City website provides many detailed bike routes, and North Sydney Council offers online cycling information and maps.

MacKillop Campus has three end-of-trip facilities available to students and staff:

  • 40 Edward Street: A single bike rack holding up to six bikes is located on the boundary between 40 and 42 Edward Street, just inside the boom gate. Male and female change rooms and showers are located on the first floor of the James Carroll Building at 40 Edward Street. The change rooms have day-use lockers that are free of charge, but are highly sought after.
  • Tenison Woods House: A bike rack (fourteen bikes in a cage adjacent to Bay 15A), unisex showers and a unisex toilet are located on B1 of Tenison Woods House - the top level of the car park. The shower and toilet are adjacent to Bay 13A. Extra female only toilets are located in the ground floor lobby area. Bike entry to Level B1 parking is via the main car park entry off Napier Street.
  • Berry Street: Cyclist's facilities are located on the basement level. There are 25 bike racks, showers, toilets and disabled toilet/shower. There are also 16 day-use lockers . Access to this facility is via Doohat Lane (off Berry Street) at the rear of the 8-10 Berry Street building. Signage indicates the entrance and intercom. Press the intercom next to the roller door. Exit is via the green button on the right-hand side of the basement roller door. Bikes must not be brought down to the basement via the lifts at any time. Staff members with existing access cards can have them upgraded to include the roller shutter. Roller door access cannot be added to staff members card, access is only via intercom.

Many bus services to North Sydney stop at Blues Street, adjacent to the station, or on the Pacific Highway.

We recommend that you use the Transport NSW Trip Planner to plan your bus journey to the campus.
