Life would be one-dimensional without art and cultural pursuits. While you’re at uni, why not explore your creative side in a fun, relaxed environment designed to foster friendships and help you unwind.
Grow in a new direction
Didn’t do debating in school but fancy giving it a go? Wish you’d paid more attention in Year 8 Italian? Have a hidden talent for photography?
Now’s your chance to get involved. So join the choir, take up public speaking or sign up for the annual Creative and Performing Arts Showcase.
Read on to find out we offer.
Student choirs
If you love to sing, add your voice to a choir. Our student choirs perform at graduation ceremonies and formal university functions, and even come together to perform as a national choir. The focus is on liturgical and sacred music and previous choir experience isn’t a prerequisite.
Creative and Performing Arts Showcase
Do you have a hidden (or a not-so-hidden) talent for visual or performing art? The Creative and Performing Arts Showcase is an annual competition covering drama, dance, music, poetry and spoken word, visual arts, short film and photography.
Competition heats are held on local campuses, with the national final taking place at the North Sydney Campus.
Guitar lessons
Learn the basics of guitar and soon you could be strumming along to your favourite songs. Beginner lessons run for eight weeks each semester.
Language classes
Our experienced instructors teach language lessons each week for eight weeks. Depending on your campus, you can choose French, Spanish or Italian.
National Debating Competition
Become a more confident, effective communicator and develop your critical-thinking abilities through debating.
You’ll be able to team up with other campuses via videolink, hear from debating coaches, make your case and have some fun – all within a supportive environment on campus.
National Oratory Competition
The National Oratory Competition gives you the opportunity to hone your persuasive public-speaking skills and compete against orators from other campuses. Share your view on a topical issue in front of a captive audience.
National Photography Competition
You carry a camera around with you every day. Sometimes, all it takes to capture a special moment or perfectly framed scene is being aware of your surroundings. The National Photography Competition offers you the chance to have your work recognised and go in the running to win a cash prize.
Toastmasters
Develop your public speaking, communication and leadership skills in a friendly and supportive environment. Toastmasters meet once a week throughout the semester and are part of a larger international network that extends as far as companies like Apple and Disney.
By students, for students
Each of our campuses also has student-run clubs and societies. What’s on offer varies but can include faculty clubs, cultural clubs and faith groups.
If you have an idea for a club and other students are interested, you can even start your own.
