ACU is home to state-of-the-art research facilities, emerging technologies, and advanced learning spaces that could take your research to the next level.
The Human Metabolic Chamber features the Room Calorimeter ADVANCE system, enabling highly precise measurement of human energy expenditure and substrate metabolism in real time. Designed for advanced clinical and performance research, the facility supports investigations into nutrition, exercise, sleep, metabolic health, obesity, and chronic disease interventions.
By continuously monitoring physiological responses in a controlled environment, researchers can better understand how the body uses energy under different conditions and develop evidence-based strategies to improve health and performance.
Areas of capability
The Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub (BEST) is a world-class research and training facility designed to advance sport, exercise, rehabilitation, and health research. Equipped with an environmental chamber, advanced bone imaging technologies, and specialist exercise physiology and biomechanics laboratories, BEST supports cutting-edge translational research and high-performance training.
The facility enables researchers, athletes, clinicians, and industry partners to collaborate on innovative approaches to human performance, injury prevention, recovery, and health optimisation.
Facility features
ACU's Innovation Hub provides researchers and industry partners with access to technologies that support immersive learning, collaboration, and data visualisation. At the centre of the Hub is the Igloo Vision system, a shared immersive visualisation environment that allows research teams to experience and interact with complex data, simulations, and digital environments at room scale.
Unlike traditional virtual reality systems, the Innovation Hub creates a fully immersive group experience without the need for individual head-mounted displays. This enables collaborative exploration, communication, and problem-solving across disciplines.
Areas of capability
The Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD) is a purpose-built biomedical engineering and innovation hub focused on accelerating the development and translation of next-generation medical technologies. Located on the St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne campus, the centre brings together clinicians, scientists, engineers, universities, and industry partners to address current and emerging healthcare challenges.
The ACMD supports innovation across MedTech, biotechnology, and digital health through interdisciplinary collaboration and clinically informed research. As a founding university partner, ACU contributes to the centre's research ecosystem through collaborative projects, and engagement with students, researchers, and healthcare partners.
