The IRCI is a Research Institute which aims to promote interdisciplinary and collaborative research on religion and philosophy internationally. We bring together scholars from multiple disciplinary perspectives including philosophy, theology, history, and literature.
Established in 2014 to advance the University's strategic goal of making ACU one of Australia's leading institutions for religious and philosophical studies, it comprises four research programs: Biblical and Early Christian Studies, Medieval and Early Modern Studies, Philosophy, and Religion and Theology.
Welcome to the Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry.
Our world-leading research environment attracts international scholars and students from across disciplines such as philosophy, classics, history, literature, religion, and theology. We seek to promote research of the highest quality, establish international research partnerships, and provide an excellent home for postgraduate research, including through joint degrees with leading international universities.
In addition to seminars and public events held at our location very near the main building of the ACU Melbourne on leafy Victoria Parade, we host six seminars across each year at our Rome campus, encouraging the fruitful exchange of ideas with leading scholars from around the world.
On this website, you can also study the profiles of our researchers. They are keen to engage with you and show you how the research they are doing contributes to studies and conversations about the world of the mind, the spirit, and its material and historical embodiment. You can be involved formally through enrolment in higher degrees or more informally though participation in events that we organise. In these various ways the Institute carries out its objective of advancing understanding of our world and imagining ways of improving it.
