Professor Geraldine Castleton is Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Education and Arts.

Professor Geraldine Castleton is Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Education and Arts. Prior to this appointment she was Dean and Head of School of Education at the University of South Australia and previously Head of School of Education at the University of Tasmania. Professor Castleton has also served as Head of Continuing Professional Development at the University of Worcester, United Kingdom.

Professor Castleton spent twenty years as a primary teacher, including three years as an advisor, working in three Australian states before moving into the tertiary sector. She has taught in undergraduate and postgraduate core and elective literacy units as well as supervised higher degree research students.

Professor Castleton has more than 80 publications including monographs, book chapters, refereed journal articles, conference papers, reports and other articles, and has been a co or sole-investigator on research and consultancy projects totalling more than $1 million.

Professor Castleton has extensive experience in the professional development of teachers and tutors working in schooling, post-compulsory, workplace and community contexts in Australia, the UK and Ireland. She has served on state-based curriculum committees at primary, secondary and post-compulsory levels and has been a member of state and national advisory committees on research and curriculum, most recently as a member of the national advisory panel on the English/Literacy national curriculum.
