We are pleased to offer the units (EDNE601) Creating Centres of the New Evangelisation: Catholic Schools and Youth Ministries and (EDNE600) Faith Formation and the New Evangelisation in Europe in 2019 from 8 July to 21 July.

Program overview

The Forming Leaders International Formation Program will be offered by ACU Faculty of Education and Arts in collaboration with the La Salle Academy for the first time in July 2019. The program includes two units from the Graduate Certificate in Education (Leading the New Evangelisation) to be conducted in London, UK and Rome and Assisi, Italy during the mid-year school holidays. 

The program is open to Australian Catholic educational and Church leaders. This program provides a unique opportunity for current and emerging educational and Church leaders to experience a rich variety of international formation experiences in an international context. 

For ACU students, the program will be offered as the two units from the Graduate Certificate in Education: (Leading the New Evangelisation). The units can also be completed as audit. The program is open to leaders in Catholic Schools (Principals, Exec Leaders, REC’s, Mission Leaders) and Church ministry leaders. This program, of two units is open to enrolment by individual students, as well as cohorts organised by dioceses and other Catholic employing authorities.

Week One: St Mary’s University, London UK

( EDNE601) Creating Centres of the New Evangelisation: Catholic Schools and Youth Ministries

  • Arrive and Orientation at St Mary's University
  • School visits
Tuesday 9 July
  • Visit key Catholic historic formation sites in London including; Westminster Cathedral. This will include a presentation from the Catholic Education Service of England and Wales and the Diocese of Westminster on the vision and formation strategies for Catholic schools in England and Wales.
  • Visit Tyburn Convent where pilgrims from all over the world visit the Shrine of the Martyrs in the afternoon.
Wednesday 10 July
  • Visit investigation of lead schools in Westminster Diocese. Primary and Secondary schools will be visited with presentations from staff and students on formation and mission initiatives.
Thursday 11 July - Saturday 13 July
  • International Faith Formation Leadership Program conducted at St Mary's University, Twickenham.

(The Australian cohort will join teachers and leaders from St Mary's University and England/Wales, Scotland and Ireland to complete the unit EDNE601.)

 

Lectures and other learning activities will be conducted in partnership with St Mary’s University in an international learning community. A joint certificate of Catholic Formation between ACU, St Mary’s University and Catholic Education Service England and Wales will be awarded at the end of the Program.

Week Two: ACU Rome Centre and Assisi, Italy 

(EDNE600) Faith Formation and the New Evangelisation

  • Lectures held at the ACU Rome Campus will focus on key outcomes of this unit and include excursions each day to a variety of places, including the Vatican Museums, the Basilica of St Peter's, St Paul outside the Walls, the rooms of St Ignatius and other religious places of significance (visitations to be finalised).
Thursday 18 July - Sunday 21 July
  • This retreat experience in Assisi will provide a further opportunity for teachers and leaders to engage in faith formation that nurtures spiritual growth and an understanding of evangelisation and mission.

Other key aspects

Pending confirmation of his availability, Archbishop Prowse will be a key member of the team leading this program. Archbishop Prowse is the Bishops representative on the ACU Senate. He supported the initial Graduate Certificate Education: Leading the New Evangelisation in Canberra as a lecturer and hosted the course at the newly developed Archdiocese Pastoral Centre in Manuka. Mr Peter Woods and Professor Br David Hall FMS, from the La Salle Academy will be the other members of the team. St Mary’s lecturers will be supporting delivery of the program offered at St Mary’s.

The Program has been scheduled to match the Australian winter school holidays and also the England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland summer holidays. Aside from London being an attractive international destination, ACU has a strong partnership with St Mary’s Twickenham that includes close alignment of mission and strategic intent.  Heathrow airport is approximately 15 minutes from St Mary’s, Twickenham The second part of the program will held at the ACU Rome campus as well as a retreat in Assisi There are regular and affordable flights between the two cities.

Cost

Approximate Costs for 2019 include:

1. On-the-ground costs will be approximately $A2300. This includes:

  • Accommodation week one including St Mary’s Twickenham 
  • Accommodation week two in Assisi (does not include Rome accommodation)
  • St Mary’s Twickenham (all meals); Assisi breakfast.

2. Course Costs for students enrolled through ACU:

  • Graduate Certificate $2,100 per unit - $4,200 for two units. For a cohort with minimum number, the cost will be approx. $1,800 per unit.
  • Audit $900 per unit or $1,800 for the full course (final cost to be confirmed).

The cost is exclusive of the following:

  • Travel – flights to London, Rome and return to Australia
  • Rome Accommodation for three nights
  • Airport Transfers
  • Some meals throughout the two weeks
