Demonstrating the (cost-)effectiveness of a personalized live-remote exercise intervention for cancer survivors using a super umbrella randomized clinical trial

Participate in the LION study

Exercise has been established to be safe and have a positive effect on cancer-related side-effects, such as fatigue, reduced physical functioning, emotional distress, and chemotherapy-induced neuropathies. It is known that people who experience many (and long-term) side-effects benefit most from exercise. Larger effects of exercise are also observed for supervised exercise compared to unsupervised exercise. However, participation in a supervised exercise program is often hampered by travel distance and time. With this study, we aim to overcome these barriers by providing live-remote supervision, where participants receive guidance from a certified exercise specialist through a video-conferencing platform (Zoom), while performing exercises within the comfort of their own homes.

All participants will receive:

  • 12 week supervised online exercise program
  • A Fitbit watch
  • Comprehensive physical assessments

You may be eligible to participate if you:

  • Are 18+ years of age
  • Have completed primary cancer treatment within the last 12 months
  • Received systemic chemotherapy treatment as part of your treatment
  • Are experiencing at least one of the following side-effects: fatigue, perceived low physical functioning, emotional distress, chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy
  • Have access to good quality and stable internet connection
