Karen McDaid is a lecturer in Mathematics Education in the Faculty of Education and Arts at the Australian Catholic University. As an ACU academic, Course Coordinator, National lecturer in charge and state lecturer in charge in the School of Education, Karen lectures and tutors preservice teachers in mathematics education programs that form a core part of their Initial Teacher Education courses. In these roles Karen provides mentorship to preservice teachers participating in ITE courses that supports their confidence, competence and improved self-efficacy for teaching primary mathematics. Since commencing her position at ACU, Karen has also contributed to the development of and delivery of mathematics units that support preservice teachers' mathematics content knowledge and specialised numeracy leadership units.
Karen's research centres on teacher education, preservice teachers' attitudes confidence and self-efficacy for teaching and for learning mathematics. Her PhD study "The identity and self-efficacy of Primary Preservice teachers: Experiences of teaching mathematics in the practicum classroom" examined how teaching mathematics during professional practice influences improved preservice teachers self-efficacy for teaching mathematics.
