Dr. Ching Shan (Angela) Wan is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and early career researcher appointed as Research Fellow for the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Wiser Wound Care. She has also been appointed an Adjunct Research Fellow position at the Menzies Health Institute Queensland in Griffith University.
She is an implementation science researcher focusing on de-implementing low-value care in hospitals. She has been actively involved in hospital translation research projects aimed at improving evidence-based healthcare delivery since 2014. Previously, she led and coordinated multiple programs of hospital-based research to reduce hospital-acquired complications and readmissions and improve cultural appropriateness and patient safety. Her involvement in research projects has directly impacted clinical practice, demonstrated by developing a SecondEars app for cancer patients whose English was their second language, and using a condition-specific approach to individuals with complex health needs in preventing hospital readmissions. In her current position at Australian Catholic University, she is undertaking studies focused on improving evidence-based healthcare delivery related to wound care and nutrition. She has designed an implementation science research program to inform a pilot and feasibility intervention trial to de-implement low-value pressure injury care relating to nutrition and support surface allocation in hospitals.
She has expertise in designing and overseeing multi-site hospital-based clinical research and has developed skills in coordinating and conducting systematic reviews, clinical trials, mixed-methods, and cost-effectiveness studies. Her research track record is strongly focused on enhancing evidence-based healthcare delivery, the cost-effectiveness of care and collaborating with international researchers, with most of her first-author peer-reviewed papers published in Q1 journals. She has a track record as a presenter at national and international conferences in the areas of patient care enhancement and nutrition. She has been the recipient of several competitive grants/awards including the St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne Research Endowment Fund, the Research Award for Women Academic Staff from Australian Catholic University, the Faculty of Health Sciences Research Project Grant from Australian Catholic University, and the Postgraduate Publications Award from Monash University.
