Unit rationale, description and aim

This unit enables preservice early childhood and primary educators to explore the contextual framework for early childhood care and education including philosophical and historical perspectives and ecological systems theory as it applies to the Australian early childhood context. State and national historical, political, economic and social factors and their implications for planning, programming and relationships in the early childhood context will be considered. Multiple perspectives including cross cultural factors and implications will be considered in relation to planning for, and the documentation of, childrens play and learning. Concepts and skills introduced in this unit will be implemented during the practicum experience in a setting for children 0-2 years.
