Unit rationale, description and aim

This unit builds upon acquired chemistry knowledge and applies this to developing an understanding of the environment and the interpretation of environmental issues and concerns in terms of the associated chemistry. The unit describes the composition and function of earth's major components (atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere) and underlying chemistry of major processes between them. It also includes a comprehensive laboratory component where students will develop skills in using various analytical techniques, environmental sampling, analysis and interpretation of results and scientific report writing.
