Professor Ben Jones
Leeds Beckett University

Ben is a sports science professor at Leeds Beckett University. He is also the Sports Science and Medicine Research lead at Premiership Rugby, and Strategic Lead for Performance, Science and Research at the Rugby Football League (RFL). Ben holds Visiting Professor positions at Australian Catholic University, and University of New England, Australia and University of Cape Town, South Africa. Ben has published more than 250 peer-review publications and leads numerous large-scale international research projects, including injury surveillance, athlete monitoring, and injury prevention programmes of research, which embed novel technology.

Associate Professor Tim Suchomel
Carroll University

Tim is an associate professor of exercise science and the director of the sport physiology and performance coaching master's program and Sport Performance Institute at Carroll University. His research interests include strength and power development, weightlifting movements and their derivatives, and athlete monitoring. He was named the 2022 National Strength and Conditioning Association Terry J. Housh Outstanding Young Investigator of the Year.

Professor Louise Burke
ACU | Mary MacKillop Institute for Health Research

Louise is a sports dietitian with 40 years of experience in the education and counselling of elite athletes. She worked at the Australian Institute of Sport for 30 years, first as Head of Sports Nutrition and then as Chief of Nutrition Strategy. She was the team dietitian for the Australian Olympic Teams from 1996 to the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Her publications include more than 350 papers in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, and the authorship or editorship of several textbooks on sports nutrition. She is an editor of the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism. Louise was a founding member of the Executive of Sports Dietitians Australia and is a Director of the IOC Diploma in Sports Nutrition.

She was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2009 for her contribution to sports nutrition. Louise was appointed as Chair in Sports Nutrition in the Mary MacKillop Institute of Health Research at Australian Catholic University in Melbourne in 2014 and took up this position full-time in 2020.

Jamie Whitfield, PhD, ASpS2

Jamie earned his PhD in exercise physiology and muscle metabolism from the University of Guelph (Canada) and is now a Research Fellow in the Exercise and Nutrition Research Program at Australian Catholic University. His research utilises a variety of research models to gain a better understanding of how nutrient availability alters skeletal muscle metabolism, and whether it can promote or inhibit training adaptation and, ultimately, human performance. He is currently a member of the editorial board for the American College of Sports Medicine's flagship journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise and is an Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA) Accredited Sport Scientist (ASpS2).

Dr Suzy Russell

Suzy is a postdoctoral research fellow investigating mental fatigue and recovery in partnership with the Australian Institute of Sport and Queensland Academy of Sport. In 2020, Suzy completed her PhD, titled 'Mental Fatigue in Elite Sport' at the University of Queensland in partnership with the Queensland Academy of Sport and Netball Australia. Having held various research, industry, and applied positions working with athletes and novel technologies, Suzy is intrigued by maximising human performance. Her research focuses on mental fatigue, recovery and cognitive performance, having published multiple peer-reviewed article and chapters on the topic. Suzy embraces a collaborative and inclusive approach to research, partnering directly with organisations for impact, and has established working relationships with international experts in the field.

Dr Jonathon Weakley
ACU | SPRINT Research Centre

Dr Jonathon Weakley is a Senior Lecturer at Australian Catholic University and an Associate Research Fellow at Leeds Beckett University. His primary area of research is in the topics of strength and power development and he has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications on the topics of strength and conditioning and sports science. Since 2014, Jonathon has consulted with coaches and athletes from AFL, NRL, NFL, Super Rugby, and Olympic teams.

Associate Professor Matthew Bourne
Griffith University

Matthew is a researcher in the School of Health Sciences and Social Work at Griffith University. His overarching research mission is to conduct world-class, multidisciplinary research in sport and exercise medicine, which has direct implications for improving clinical practice. He is primarily interested in the application of targeted exercise to prevent injury and enhance performance.
