Jews and Christians in the Qur'an: Who has power over God's bounty?

Someone who reads the Qur’an from a Jewish or a Christian perspective is likely to be struck by the special way in which this book seems to show both a great familiarity with, and a severe critique of, these two religions.

Professor Wilhelmus Valkenberg will argue from a close reading that the Qur’an employs a rejection of tradition-based exclusivism and relies on the argument that God is ever able to bestow God’s bounty on whomever God wants. In this, Islam, like Judaism and Christianity, can be understood as wrestling with the combination of commitment and openness, conviction and humility as conditions for interreligious dialogue and comparative theology.
