The Aged and Disability Services Branch forms part of the Community Strengthening Division. There are three business units within the Aged & Disability Services branch; the following two units provide a range of home and community-based services to support older people, people with disability and carers that help support people to live healthy, active, and independent lives.

  • Community Programs
  • Home Care Services

The third unit, Community Planning, is committed to ensuring that Yarra is a place where everyone can live well. Living well means feeling included and active in the community. It means individuals can connect with other people and participate in everyday life. We focus on people with disability, and people aged 50+.

The role

Some key activities students could be involved in (depending upon the time of year and projects at the time) are:

  • Attending Senior Group meetings (we support approximately 15 groups, many of who are CALD) and supporting with activities using interpreters when working with the groups where required
  • Assisting in planning a Seniors Week Activity, International Day for People with Disability activity, a workshop on a topic of interest, for example - Health, My Aged Care Service Navigation, Elder Abuse
  • Supporting other engagement activities
