I had an incredible experience at ACU, and I attribute that to the staff, mentors, and friends I’ve made along the way. I loved the practical components of my course and the opportunities presented to me. I was given the chance to do an internship at the North Melbourne Football Club through their relationship with ACU.”

The Bachelor of Physical Activity and Health Science replaced the Bachelor of Exercise and Health Science in 2016. This new degree provides a strong academic base in Exercise Science and focuses on the practical skills required to become leaders in Outdoor Education, HPE Teaching, Coaching and Health Promotion professions. Students can undertake two minors or one major within the degree, allowing for multiple vocational pathways to employment in sport and coaching, exercise science, health and health promotion, outdoor leadership and HPE teaching. The program is designed with the flexibility to accommodate majors and minors and options for a second teaching method (e.g., Mathematics, Science, Biology, Outdoor Education).
From Semester 1 2019, we will also be offering a brand new and highly innovative Bachelor of Sport and Outdoor Education. This course will enable students to gain a strong academic foundation in outdoor leadership, sport and exercise, as well as practical hands-on study experience, through laboratory and field trip participation and industry practicum experiences. Students will graduate from this course with a broad academic understanding as well as significant practical experience across the domains of physical activity, sport, and outdoor education.
ACU’s Bachelor of Teaching/ Bachelor of Exercise Science provides a four-year teaching qualification for Physical Education (PE) in Victoria; Health, Outdoor and Physical Education (HOPE) in the ACT; and Health and Physical Education (H/PE) in Queensland. The double degree provides students with a great deal of flexibility in their chosen career path. The high performance sport industry is a global, multi-billion dollar entity that provides employment opportunities for a range of professions including sport scientists, coaches and managers. At the heart of this industry is the conditioning of the athlete with the aim of optimising individual and team performance for successful outcomes.
The brand new Bachelor of High Performance Sport will be introduced in Semester 1 2019. The bachelor degree is a minimum of 2.5 years full-time and available at ACU's Brisbane, Melbourne and Strathfield campuses. Students will gain skills in sports performance and analysis, exercise programming, and strength and conditioning of athletes. Students will learn to design and deliver programs that enhance athletic performance and reduce the likelihood of injury and illness.
ACU’s postgraduate courses in high performance sport aim to help students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills for a career in the industry. Using cutting-edge interactive technologies for online delivery wherever you are in the world, cross-disciplinary study units bring together current and new knowledge from a range of professions within the industry for example: sports psychology, skill acquisition, nutrition and dietetics, exercise physiology, physiotherapy, sports medicine and rehabilitation. Specific topics are developed and delivered by internationally-renowned experts, with a focus on world’s best practice.
Issues of leadership, culture, and communication in the high performance sport setting are addressed, and a foundation of project design and research skills is incorporated into the program with direct application to high performance sporting contexts.
To support these subjects, an intensive on-campus component is incorporated as a one-week offering during the course. This component offers students hands-on experience with the latest technology in the industry, while providing the added opportunity to network directly with industry specialists and other students in the course.
Two graduate certificates, in Leadership and in Performance Analysis, have been added to ACU’s existing suite of postgraduate High Performance Sport programs. The high performance sport industry is increasingly focused on developing employees and athletes with strong leadership skills and training in ethics. In addition, the ability to analyse and interpret meaningful high performance sport data in order to monitor and enhance performance, and to apply advanced information literacy to the processing and reporting of information and data are becoming an expectation for sports science employment.
Discover the nutritive value of foods, the nutrients that bodies need at different stages of development, and the role that nutrients and diet play in health promotion and disease prevention. ACU's Bachelor of Nutrition Science focuses on general healthcare, chronic disease management, Indigenous health, and other emerging areas of need, and will appeal to anyone interested in careers in nutrition including: nutritionists in public and private industry; hospitals and public health sectors; e-health and tele-health; in nutrition communication; in food science; and in the research and development sectors.
The program will also provide the basis for postgraduate studies in dietetics. Dietitians treat disease through diet and therefore require further studies and clinical practice in health settings.
ACU also offers a Bachelor of Nutrition Science/Bachelor of Business Administration dual degree for graduates who wish to utilise their knowledge and skills in industry, the public service or in small business enterprises.
