To be eligible to apply, you must: submit an application to ACU by the closing date for scholarship applications ; be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident at the time of application; complete Year 12 in the year of application or have completed Year 12 in the three preceding years; enrol as and remain a full-time student for the duration of the program; expect to gain admission to the program in the year of award on the basis of the specified admission criteria ; not have undertaken any previous tertiary study other than studies in special university programs designed for secondary school students or first year bachelor-level study; and be available to participate in the selection process as determined by ACU; meet the leadership and contribution to the community attributes.

Yes, you can still be accepted into the degree as long as you meet the selection requirements. However, it’s important to remember this is a competitive degree with limited places, so an offer is not guaranteed.

The scholarship is valued at $32,000 per year for the duration of the degree. In addition to the scholarship funds, recipients are also eligible to receive an economy airfare for a study abroad program.

In the first year of the scholarship, successful applicants from remote areas will be paid $3,000 of the total annual value of the scholarship in the first week of study to help offset start-up costs, with the balance to be paid in two equal instalments after census date in Semester 1 and Semester 2. All other successful applicants will be paid $2,500 of the total value of the scholarship in the first week of study to help offset start-up costs, with the balance to be paid in two equal instalments after census date in Semester 1 and Semester 2.

In subsequent years, the scholarship will be paid in two equal instalments after census date in Semester 1 and Semester 2.

Yes, the scholarship is only available for students studying full-time. If you choose to study this course part-time, you will not be eligible for the scholarship.

Applications will be considered against the following:

  • Academic ability.
  • Alignment with Ramsay attributes demonstrated through leadership qualities; commitment to the enrichment of society; passion for intellectual engagement with ideas and great questions that have shaped Western civilisation; and critical habit of mind demonstrated through capacity to debate and discuss ideas, and to consider different views and perspectives.
  • Alignment with ACU mission as demonstrated through evidence of commitment to the pursuit of truth; dignity of the human person; and common good.
  • Demonstrated alignment with ACU Strategic Focus Areas of opportunity, innovation and ethics.
  • The above attributes will be demonstrated through submission of a 1,000 to 1,500-word essay. Short-listed applicants will be interviewed by the selection panel.
  • Provided that the criteria are met, preference may be given to applicants who can demonstrate as part of their application that they have experienced disadvantage or are from an underrepresented background.

You will be required to meet eligibility criteria and academic requirements, submit a resume and a 1,000 – 1,500-word essay that can be either an essay response to the question, 'How should the champions of Western civilisation reply to its critics today?' OR a pre-existing piece of written work on an Arts/Humanities theme, and undertake an interview with the selection panel.

Yes, you can use funding from this scholarship to help cover the cost of your accommodation. You will receive up to $3,000 in the first week of your study to help cover the start-up costs of preparing for your studies (such as relocating and securing accommodation).
