Investigating the roles of exercise and diet in the prevention of chronic lifestyle-related diseases

As the incidence of chronic lifestyle-related diseases continues to rise globally, the work of ACU’s Centre for Human Metabolism and Performance has never been more critical.

The Program’s research team conducts clinically-based exercise and/or nutrition intervention studies directed at:

• maximising health benefits through the optimal timing of nutrition and exercise
• maintaining bone and skeletal muscle health during ageing
• preventing and managing the adverse effects of cancer and other chronic metabolic diseases
• discovering the biological mechanisms underlying the health benefits of appropriate exercise and nutrition

Experimental and clinical trials undertaken by the Centre for Human Metabolism and Performance are conducted in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities using a range of contemporary equipment and techniques. Human, animal and cell models are utilised by our international team of researchers, who are dedicated to achieving research excellence using a holistic approach that considers molecular, cellular and whole-body physiology.
