At events throughout the year our students and staff are recognised for their achievements, and our students can build on their skills, network with employers and work with industry to address real-world challenges.

Students met with industry and built professional capabilities at Career Catalyst, a Medibank-sponsored event created to address the challenges faced by international students navigating the Australian jobs market.

Students approached the sessions with curiosity and were eager to engage. They were given insights into four key areas: AI and digital confidence, critical thinking and problem-solving, teamwork and communication, and alumni/industry insight and professional networks.

Every year students across Australia and around the world compete in the Microsoft Office Championship. Competing in three categories, Word, Excel or Powerpoint, students have the chance to represent their country while showing off their specialist skills.

In 2025, ACU student Jorja Hammond placed fourth in the Excel category competing in the finals in Florida against students from around the world. Jorja represented Australia at the finals after ace-ing their Excel certification exam with a perfect score of 1000 as part of their Bachelor of Business (Administration)/Bachelor of Commerce.

Jorja's success was not the first time ACU students have demonstrated their Microsoft mastery. In 2022 eight students from the Faculty of Law and Business each earned a place at the Microsoft Office Specialist Australia Championship. Their selection represented a significant achievement, showcasing their digital proficiency and competitive readiness at the national level. This achievement, along with Jorja's great result, demonstrates ACU’s commitment to developing our students’ digital capabilities, recognising excellence and strengthening graduate employability through industry-recognised certification and practical skills development.

Australian Catholic University (ACU) and Deakin University partnered to deliver a workshop under the auspices of the Australia–India Council, exploring how partnerships between industry and universities could expand access to internships aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for students in Australia and India.

Funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the project focused on identifying practical strategies for developing SDG-focused internships, mapping potential barriers to implementation, and strengthening collaboration among universities, industry partners, non-profit organisations and other stakeholders.

The initiative aimed to establish a clearer pathway for designing mutually beneficial internship opportunities that enhance students’ practical experience, connect academic learning with real-world sustainability challenges, and strengthen Australia–India educational and industry collaboration.

ACU partnered with GovHack in 2022 to host the annual open government data hackathon at our North Sydney campus, welcoming participants in person and online.

During the 46-hour competition, teams collaborated to develop innovative, proof-of-concept solutions to social, economic and technological challenges using open government data. The event brought together participants from diverse backgrounds to exchange ideas and demonstrate the potential of data-driven innovation to address real-world problems.

Professor Chris Lonsdale, ACU Deputy Provost, delivered a keynote address highlighting the university’s commitment to solving societal challenges, advancing gender equity through the Athena SWAN Charter for Women in Science, and supporting remote, regional and Indigenous communities through the Faculty of Law and Business’s Global Social Innovation Challenge initiatives.

"It was a great pleasure to meet, talk and collaborate with the participants coming from many different professional and academic fields during the GovHack. The team spirit was awesome and it was cool to see what can be accomplished during one weekend working together."
