Through a 'Flipped Learning Approach' to teaching, Carringbush offered both in-person and online sessions to address the gap in research of improving teaching practices for adult beginner EAL learners with complex needs. Through reflective surveys from both teachers and the EAL learners in the first and third levels of classes taught at Carringbush, qualitative and quantitative data was collected to identify and develop key patterns and themes. Among other findings, this report highlights the importance of establishing and maintaining positive relationships between learners, teachers and peers in creating a safe and positive learning environment, and that it is an essential ingredient for effective EAL teaching and learning. Carringbush learners also expressed a greater sense of confidence as learners over the course of the project, and value learning English as a pathway to independence and connection in everyday life.
