The Stakeholder Engaged Scholarship Unit (SESU) is a product of our organisational culture – a culture deeply engaged in the wider community. At ACU, we listen to our partners and act in response to their needs.
The SESU is driven by our desire to engage with community for the common good and the celebration of human dignity. Through collaborative partnerships, SESU projects achieve impact through empathy by undertaking research that is designed to enrich lives and achieve positive outcomes for communities experiencing disadvantage or marginalisation.
ACU is guided by the values of equity, diversity, accessibility, wellbeing and sustainability. We have a long-standing commitment to mutually-beneficial community engagement through our student placements and the opportunities we provide staff to give back to organisations supporting our community’s most vulnerable populations.
Exploring and solving real-world challenges are important to us and our research. Our experienced researchers are motivated to pursue deeply engaged, high-quality and ethical research. We also understand that at the end of the project, you’ll want the research findings to be told in ways that are meaningful and appropriate to your organisation. Whether you are looking for high-quality reports, brochures or presentation materials, we’ll work closely with you from the outset to understand your needs.
If you are interested in partnering with us but have some questions, we invite you to contact us about your needs.

We are a world-leading research university in our priority areas of education, health, and theology and philosophy. Our culture of research excellence is founded on the principles of social justice and attracts global experts and collaborators.
We have a duty to conduct research to the highest standards. ACU’s research ethics, integrity and compliance frameworks ensure that research is conducted responsibly, ethically, and in compliance with all relevant codes, guidelines and legislation.
“ACU is committed to working with its partners in ways that are mutually beneficial and that better the lives of individuals experiencing vulnerability in Australia and overseas. We are aware that many community organisations are under-resourced and find it difficult to undertake scholarship activities to inform, improve and grow their services. Projects supported by the Stakeholder Engaged Scholarship Unit will help to address this problem, and many of them will bring about more just and compassionate social policies and services.”
