About theology

Theology is for those who are curious about the origin, nature and future role of religion in society. It’s for those with inquisitive and enquiring minds; those eager to probe the foundations of the Christian faith, the development of its central teachings and philosophies, and its relationship with the modern world. Study theology with us to explore questions of knowledge, of identity and of value, and uncover the meaning and significance of faith seeking understanding.

Skills for life

The study of theology is a transformational journey. Whichever career path and life journey you choose, the study of theology will challenge you to think of the reasons behind your choice, your purpose, your goals and the contribution you will make to your world.

Study worldwide

Take your studies around the world with opportunities to study theology in some of the world’s most sacred and historically significant places, including at our Rome Campus, in Israel and the Philippines. Or you can choose to study for a semester with one of our partner institutions in Europe or the USA.

Theology for life and career

We offer theology at any stage of your life and career journey, accessible at any level of study. Choose from short courses, certificates and undergraduate opportunities, postgraduate coursework programs, professional and research degrees, international study tours, and a wide range of professional learning and consulting solutions. Professional development and accreditation is also available.

World-class learning

When you choose to study with us, you're choosing to learn from world-leading theology teachers and researchers. Our research performance has been rated above world standard – and first equal in religion and religious studies – in the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) rankings. We also rank 53 in the world for theology, divinity and religious studies in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018.

Louwana Saba

ACU Graduate, Mission integration manager

“I always had an interest in the study of theology and found that ACU was a best fit for me, being a national university with highly-regarded professionals in the field. It is one of few Australian universities with a dedicated School of Theology and Philosophy.”

“ACU for me also has a big high-school feel to it. The lecturers learn to know you, you develop a rapport with your peers, and the sense of familiarity that resonates in the place, enables a fruitful and more meaningful experience in your academic journey. I was not just a number, a student out of thousands – but a person with interests and abilities.”
