Dr Patrick Campbell is a Senior Lecturer in Exercise Science at Australian Catholic University and an applied researcher specialising in human performance, musculoskeletal injury epidemiology, and injury mitigation in sporting and tactical populations. His work integrates physical, physiological and perceptual approaches to understanding performance, fatigue, and injury risk, with a strong emphasis on translating complex data into practical decision-making in high-performance sport and physically demanding occupations.
Patrick completed his PhD in Sport Science at Queensland University of Technology and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Tactical Research Unit at Bond University. In his professional roles, he has worked across academic, applied, and high-performance settings. For example, Patrick has collaborated with sporting organisations, Defence, law enforcement, and federal government agencies to support evidence-based practice in performance, readiness, and injury mitigation. Across this work, he has led or co-authored more than 25 technical reports for organisations including state and international law enforcement and Australian Government agencies, alongside a growing body of peer-reviewed research.
In addition to his research, Patrick has applied professional experience in physical preparation across diverse populations, including roles supporting national competitions, world championship campaigns, and Paralympic qualification pathways. He is currently a member of the Sports Performance, Injury and New Technologies Research Centre and the National Centre for Veterans and Families at Australian Catholic University.
