To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level or equivalent:

  • ATAR or Selection Rank, International Baccalaureate (IB), or equivalent;

  • A written submission, which includes a Curriculum Vitae, references, recent academic results and essay;
  • Interview.

Definition

Major: 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at an introductory level, at least 40 cp at 200-level and at least 20 cp from 300-level.

Minor: 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at an introductory level and at least 20 cp at an advanced level.

Completion requirements

To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 240 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:

  1. 130 cp from Western Civilisation Specified units (Part A)
  2. 20 cp from Western Civilisation Elective units (Part B)
  3. 10 cp from Community Engagement unit (Part C)
  4. 80 cp of Bachelor of Arts units (Part D) from:

a. Arts Major

b 2 Arts Minors

c 1 Arts Minor and Elective units

d Arts Elective units

Exit points

Students who have met the requirements of the Diploma in Liberal Arts can exit with this award.

Progression requirements

Unless otherwise stated, students are required to complete one or more introductory-level units (100-level) within an approved sequence prior to enrolling in advanced-level units (200- or 300-level) in the same sequence. Any additional prerequisites for specific units are listed in brackets following each unit in the Schedule of Unit Offerings.

With the approval of the Course Adviser, a student may undertake cross-institutional study to fulfill, either partially or entirely, the requirements for a Major or Minor in a language other than English.
