Admission requirements
An applicant must comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy , which includes meeting a minimum ATAR requirement and meeting the English Language Proficiency requirements.
In addition, applicants in Victoria will be required to demonstrate suitability for teaching.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level or equivalent:

To qualify for a Bachelor of Education (Primary), a student must complete 320 cp (Part A) consisting of:

c.140 cp from Primary Content and Pedagogy units (Part A3)
d. 60 cp from Religious Education Teaching Area units OR 20cp from Core Curriculum units, 10 cp from Specified units and 30 cp from Elective units (Part A4)
f. 0 cp from ACER Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education units (Part A5)

To qualify for a Bachelor of Education (Primary), with a SPECIAL EDUCATION Major, a student must complete 320 cp (Part B) consisting of
a.50 cp from Education Studies units (Part B1)
b.50 cp from Effective Teaching units (Part B2)
c.120 cp from Primary Content and Pedagogy units (Part B3)
d. 80 cp from Special Education Major units (Part B4)
e.20 cp from Core Curriculum units (Part B5)

Other requirements
Professional Experience Requirements:
Students must successfully complete all professional experience components, including those embedded within individual units.
Requirements for Working with Children:
All enrolled students must obtain the necessary approvals before enrolling in EDES106 Contemporary Learning Cultures and Contexts. These include:
- Blue Card (Queensland)
- Working with Vulnerable People Registration (Australian Capital Territory)
- Working with Children Check (New South Wales, and Victoria)
- International Students: Must provide police check documentation from their home country.
- National Police Check: May be required for placements in settings other than schools.
- Students with International Residency: Any student who has lived in another country for 12 months or more must supply a police check covering that period.
Exit points
A student who has completed the course requirements for the courses listed below may graduate with the corresponding qualification. However, none of these qualifications qualify the holder to teach in Australia.
- Undergraduate Certificate in Educational Studies
- Diploma in Educational Studies (Tertiary Preparation)
- Bachelor of Educational Studies
A student who does not satisfy the LANTITE requirements may exit the course through an appropriate pathway, provided they meet the criteria for that award.
Progression requirements
Before enrolling in EDET100 Effective Teaching 1: Becoming a Teacher, students must have attempted the ACER Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education.
To be eligible to enrol in the third placement unit, EDET301 Effective Teaching 3: Engaging Learners and Managing Learning Environments, students must first complete both LNTE100 LANTITE – Literacy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students and LNTE101 LANTITE – Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students.
Students are required to follow the prescribed unit enrolment pattern outlined in the relevant Course Enrolment Guide, unless an alternative arrangement has been approved by the Course Adviser.
