This Award was established in honour of Sir Peter Cosgrove, a former soldier, Governor-General, and Chancellor of ACU who has provided many years of exemplary service to the society and veteran community. He is a passionate supporter of current and past veterans and is renowned for his leadership, compassion, and determination. Sir Peter has inspired several generations of veterans in Australia. In appreciation of a spirit of service, this Award is the most prestigious recognition of exemplary and impactful contributions of graduating students to the ACU and wider community.

  • Expected to complete, or completed study within 12 months of award nomination.

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstration of outstanding direct or indirect leadership capabilities at various levels. This may include leading a team or group within co-curricular or extra-curricular activities or leading by example (that is, ongoing participation in/support of the program, demonstration of significant personal or professional improvement, multiple points of contribution to the program or similar).
  2. Evidence of exemplary and impactful contributions to ACU. This can be regular and substantial involvement in the ACU community during the study, including but not limited to:
    • Supporting peers on campus
    • Engaging in programs and supporting students on campus
    • Advocacy
  3. Evidence of exemplary and impactful contribution to external community or Non-Government Organisation (NGO) during study at ACU. The impact of the nominee’s involvement must be clearly articulated and endorsed in the nomination form. Examples of contributions include:
    • Supporting veteran organisations
    • Supporting the community (that is volunteering, State Emergency Service, community groups and similar)
    • Advocacy
  4. Empathy and respect for others when engaging and supporting the ACU/external community.
  5. Commitment to ACU’s values and the pursuit of the common good.
  6. Satisfying the academic requirements of the chosen study.

This Award recognises significant and impactful contributions of graduating students to the ACU and wider community.
