Yega is a lecturer at Thomas More Law School and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Australian Catholic University. He has successfully designed Mental Health Law electives for the Australian Catholic University, Western Sydney University, University of New England, Charles Darwin University and University Technology of Sydney. Previously, he was an oral assessor in Professional Legal subjects for the College of Law. Yega used to teach Business and Company Law at UNSW and; Taxation Law at Macquarie University and University of New England.
Yega holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Master of Law degrees from University of Staffordshire and a Doctor of Philosophy from Macquarie University.
Yega successfully completed his Bar Examination Course in London and Practical Legal Training Course in Sydney.
He is admitted as a solicitor in NSW and a Barrister in London UK at the Honourable Society of Lincolns Inn. He was a former judicial member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal from 2008-2012.
He is also the author of Mental Health Law: A Practical Guide, Lexis Nexis, 2023.
Yega’s research interest is in mental health law, review of forensic, correctional and civil patients, criminal law, guardianship, human rights, immigration and sees his role as protecting the vulnerable individuals in our community.
