Become a Clemente program volunteer

Clemente Australia programs are uniquely enhanced by the time, knowledge and skills of our volunteer learning partners. Our volunteers bring more than just academic support–they bring connection, compassion and community.

Drawing from their own educational journeys and deep understanding of the communities they serve, volunteer learning partners foster safe, inclusive, and empowering collaborative learning environments that are pivotal to Clemente student success. Our dedicated volunteers offer guidance, encouragement, and a steady presence to students who are bravely reconnecting with education after facing significant life challenges that have previously prevented them from realising their educational goals and aspirations.

“Most of us have a very scratchy idea of what studying means. Learning partners help us find the right way that suits our individual needs. We may need support by boosting our confidence and encouraging us to stick with it if we feel like giving up. We may need help with skills for essay writing or oral presentations. We may need help with computer skills, or research. Simply we just need your support. None of us are used to studying, it is new and can be frightening. You are a gift beyond measure.”

Volunteers engage in direct service with community members, working to strengthen community, connection and empowerment. Choosing how they engage with the community hub, volunteers align their skills, interests and volunteering goals to one or more of the short or longer-term outreach opportunities and community-led projects available. These opportunities have been negotiated through reciprocal and mutually beneficial partnerships between the ACU Community Hub and Darebin communities.

“The opportunity to volunteer came at a time in my life where I felt restless, isolated and lacking in purpose. Since I started volunteering, I am reenergised, fulfilled and happy that I can give back to the community in which I was born and raised”
