The iPLAY Program is a collaborative partnership supporting teachers and schools to increase physical activity among students. It focuses on practical training, evidence-based strategies and improving children's health and wellbeing.

The iPLAY Program is a partnership between Australian Catholic University (ACU) and the NSW Department of Education's School Sport Unit. The program was developed to help primary school teachers increase physical activity among students through practical training and classroom resources.

Many primary school teachers receive limited training in physical education, which can affect their confidence in delivering engaging sport and movement activities. iPLAY supports teachers by providing professional learning, practical teaching strategies and digital resources that help them integrate more physical activity into everyday school life.

The program was co-developed with the NSW Department of Education who brought important knowledges, assets, and experiences to ensure it could be delivered effectively in real school settings and scaled across the education system. The Department has supported the program through funding, promotion and implementation in schools.

Why it matters

Physical inactivity among children is a growing concern, with many students not meeting recommended activity levels. Schools play a critical role in supporting children's health and wellbeing, but teachers often need additional support and training to deliver quality physical education. By building teachers' confidence and skills, the program can benefit generations of students over the course of a teacher's career.
