Teach Now Victoria is a two‑year, full‑time Master of Teaching (Secondary) program combining academic study with substantial in‑school experience. The program includes a paid internship year (Year 2) where students work under Permission to Teach (PTT) in a Victorian government secondary school located in the priority areas of western Melbourne, Ballarat, the Grampians, the Wimmera, or south‑western Victoria.
Additionally, there may be the opportunity to take on a part-time Learning Support Officer LSO role in the second semester of the first year, depending on availability.
The course duration is 2 years full time. The first year comprises intensive study supported by two professional experience placements of 15 and 20 days. In the second year, students work part‑time as paraprofessionals in a government high school while completing remaining course units.
Yes. Units are delivered in multimode online delivery, with some units also offering optional face‑to‑face sessions. All professional experience placements and the internship year must be completed face-to-face.
Applicants must hold a Bachelor degree and be eligible for one teaching area; English, Mathematics, or a Science. Applicants must reside in or be willing to relocate to Victoria, be willing to travel to priority areas, and hold Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
Year 1: Up to a $16,000 scholarship, paid fortnightly after university census date. Year 2: Earn up to $51,000+ while working under PTT at 0.8 EFT for 12 months. Up to $2,000 relocation payment is available if you move more than 100 km for the internship year.
A total of 60 placement days: Year 1: EDET590 – 15 days; EDET690 – 20 days. Year 2: EDET691 – 25 days at the host school plus 12‑month 0.8 EFT employment. Students do not arrange their own placements; these are organised by the Project Officer and Department of Education.
Placements and internships occur across western Melbourne, Ballarat, the Grampians, the Wimmera, and south‑western Victoria. A willingness to travel or relocate is required.
If the Department of Education cannot secure an internship host school, you will be transferred into the regular Master of Teaching (Secondary) program to complete your studies.
The internship stream accepts applicants with teaching areas in Science, Mathematics, and English. If your teaching areas are not offered, an alternative offer to the regular Master of Teaching (Secondary) may be provided.
Yes. Students must complete both the LANTITE Diagnostic Test and externally administered official test run by ACER. You must meet national literacy and numeracy benchmarks before beginning Year 2.
PTT allows eligible students to work in Victorian government schools while completing their studies. In Year 2, students work under PTT 3–4 days a week as part of their paid internship.
