What is the New Colombo Plan?

The New Colombo Plan (NCP) is a signature initiative of the Australian Government which aims to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to study and undertake internships in the region.

Open to all Australian undergraduates across Australia, the New Colombo Plan supports around 10,000 students a year, who represent the diversity of the Australian community.

NCP Mobility program

The NCP Mobility Program provides funding to Australian universities to support Australian undergraduate students’ participation in study, internships, mentorships, practicums and research in 40 host locations across the Indo-Pacific region.

The Mobility program is open to Australian university undergraduates aged 18 to 28. Participation by undergraduates over 28 is permitted in some circumstances.

The NCP Mobility program are available in form of:

  • Short-term mobility grants, available for certain faculty-led short-term programs.
  • Semester grants, available for one full semester study.

NCP Scholarship program

The NCP Scholarship Program offers around 120 scholarships annually to a diverse cohort of Australian undergraduates studying a variety of disciplines in up to 40 Indo-Pacific locations. Scholars undertake offshore programs including study, language training and an internship and/or mentorship for up to 19 months.

The NCP Scholarship program is a prestigious, transformative program targeting future leaders that is worth over AUD$60,000.*

No. To receive the NCP Mobility Grant and/or Scholarships from ACU, you need to be an ACU student. Please contact your institution for advice about NCP at your institution.
Australian undergraduate students aged 18 to 28 may be eligible to receive NCP Mobility Grants and/or Scholarships.  Please contact the Study Abroad and Exchange team by completing the enquiry form.
No, only Australian citizens can receive NCP funding.
NCP Mobility Grant program: funding is distributed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to universities , which will then disburse these grants to eligible students.
NCP Scholarship program: funding for Australian undergraduate students to study for up to one year and participate in internships, mentorships and receive language training.
