About mental health nursing

Our suite of programs are developed specifically for nurses who specialise in mental health. Gain knowledge and skills across a range of mental health settings, including acute care, community mental health, and psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery services. Develop advanced leadership skills while you gain a more comprehensive understanding of the health care system and use your expertise to become a change agent.

Add CBT to your degree

Stand out from your competitors by studying a specific unit in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), offered in both our graduate diploma and Master of Mental Health (Nursing). CBT is an intervention of choice in contemporary mental health service delivery and is an effective treatment option.

Job opportunities

Take advantage of strong employment prospects in the field: a Time Series Analysis of job postings between January 1, 2013 – December 31, 2022 shows a 227% increase in Australian job postings for registered nurses (mental health) over the last 10 years, with a 22.3% increase between 2021 and 2022 in job advertisements with job postings hitting a ten-year peak of 1,765 in 2022 (Lightcast, via subscription).

Practice ready

Complete a course that addresses current mental health nursing perspectives and practices and gives you a comprehensive understanding of illness as well as wellness. The inclusion of diversity and lifetime perspectives will also ensure that you are practice ready.

Supportive, online and accredited

Get government support to study a Master of Mental Health (Nursing) – one of Australia’s only mental health nursing courses fully accredited by the Australasian College of Mental Health Nurses. Our graduate diploma is also ACMHN-accredited and our entire suite of mental health courses offer Commonwealth supported places. Plus they’re fully online.
