The Bachelor of Arts/Master of Teaching (Secondary) is an initial teacher education course. It’s fast-tracked so you’ll be able to graduate with an undergraduate degree and a postgraduate teaching qualification in just four years.

The Bachelor of Arts/Master of Teaching (Secondary) provides you with an innovative pathway into becoming a secondary school teacher with two specialist teaching areas.

Unique skillset

By studying this double degree, you will deepen your disciplinary knowledge by completing a Bachelor of Arts alongside an initial teacher education qualification at the postgraduate level. You will have the option of completing your secondary teacher accreditation requirements for:

  • two major teaching areas, or
  • one major and up to two minor teaching areas, or
  • one major and one minor teaching area, together with accreditation to teach religious education in Catholic schools.

As well as learning how to make well-reasoned ethical decisions, you will graduate with the ability to recognise, assess and respond to the complex ethical issues you’re bound to face in your career.

Professional experience

As a graduate of this course, you will have a strong grounding in secondary education curriculum and pedagogy and will have the confidence and practical experience to teach in your specialist teaching area. You will build your skills and practice through 80 days of supervised professional experience.

Professional recognition

Graduates are eligible for registration as a secondary teacher in government, independent, Catholic or other faith-based schools, and a range of secondary education settings.
