About this scholarship

Established in 2016 as a tangible memorial to Jodie Reid, a 1996 ACU Nursing Graduate and Centaur Medalist, who died in 2004, aged 27, after suffering the ravages of Diabetes Mellitus for 25 years.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria, as of the scholarship application closing date:

  • Citizenship: Domestic
  • Faculty: Health Sciences
  • Course: Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Paramedicine
  • Campus: Brisbane
  • Year level: This scholarship is available to all students in any year except the final year.
  • Involvement and/or leadership in a rural/remote/regional community through activities designed to create a more just, merciful and sustainable world.
  • Must be from a remote/very remote area of Queensland. Students from regional areas are not eligible to apply.

Application process

Apply online by clicking the button below and completing the application form. You much attach the following documents with your application:

  • A written statement of approximately 500 words addressing the following (please refer to the Jodi Michelle Reid booklet).
    • Tell us about the hardship or barriers you have faced in accessing higher education and how your degree will change the future.
    • Why have you chosen to undertake your degree? What do you hope to achieve with it in the future?
    • How have you engaged with a remote community and how does this reflect the mission and values of ACU?
  • How will obtaining your degree allow you to give back to your community (eg working in a remote /very remote community)? Evidence of academic ability (eg transcript, school report, etc.
  • Evidence of financial need, eg:
    • Most recent tax assessment notice, OR
    • Centrelink Income Statement, OR
    • Most recent 60 days of bank transactions AND pay slips from the last 6 weeks
  • Evidence of your involvement and/or leadership in community service
  • Written reference.

Selection criteria

Applications are assessed based on the strength of the following criteria:

  • Written statement
  • Financial need
  • Community service
  • Written reference

Preference will be given to applicants who are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Selection process

Applicants will be shortlisted by the Scholarships Office and recipients selected by the donor.

Ongoing requirements

You are requested to submit a letter of appreciation for the donor explaining how the scholarship has assisted you. The letter should be submitted to the Scholarships Office no later than 1 October 2018.
