Francis Xavier Conaci Scholarship

About this scholarship

Established in 2016 by ACU Vice Chancellor, Professor Greg Craven, this scholarship honours Francis Xavier Conaci, a young Aboriginal man who joined the Benedictines and was sent to Rome for his education. This scholarship will assist an ACU student to attend the UNCC300 core curriculum unit at the ACU Rome Centre.

One scholarship annually, valued at $3,000 and paid in one lump sum.

This scholarship is open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria:

  • Citizenship: Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders
  • Year level: Undergraduate students
  • Course: enrolled in UNCC300: Understanding Self and Society, at the Rome Campus in July

Application process

  • Apply online by clicking the button below and completing the application form.
  • Please note you must also have applied and been accepted to study UNCC300 in Rome. More information about this is available in your Student Portal (under ACU Info, Careers and Opportunities, Study Overseas).

The following documents must be submitted with the application:

  • A written statement of approximately 250 words outlining why attending this core curriculum unit in Rome is important for your education.

Applications are assessed on the strength of the following criteria:

  • Written statement.

Selection process

A recipient will be selected by a selection committee comprised of the Director, First Peoples & Equity Pathways Directorate, the Director, International, and an Aboriginal Elder or Indigenous Academic as nominated by the Director of First Peoples & Equity Pathways Directorate.


The successful applicant will be expected to attend a Scholarship Award ceremony to be formally presented with their scholarship.
