Creating Opportunity Fund Scholarship

About this scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2018 in order to financially assist commencing students who are suffering hardship to access higher education. Such hardships may include, relocation from a regional or remote location, single parent background, first in family to attend university, domestic violence, ongoing medical conditions, non-English speaking background, social, cultural disadvantage or adjusting to life in Australia as a refugee.

Scholarship type



  • The scholarship is valued at $4,000, to be paid in one lump sum.

Opportunity for ongoing scholarships

A limited number of ongoing scholarships may also be available to applicants who demonstrate exceptional circumstances.

  • The ongoing scholarship is valued at up to $16,000, to be paid in instalments of $2,000 per semester for students enrolled full time or $1,000 for students enrolled part time, for the duration of their course (up to a maximum of four years).

This scholarship is open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria, as of the scholarship application closing date:

  • Citizenship: domestic and international students who hold a Temporary Protection visa (TPV) or a Safe Haven Enterprise visa (SHEV) or asylum seekers on a Bridging visa A (BVA) or E (BVE)
  • Faculty: any
  • Course: any ACU undergraduate degree
  • Campus: any
  • Year level: first year

Application process

Apply online by clicking the button below and completing the application form. You must attach the following documentation with your application:

  • A written statement of approximately 200 words outlining the hardship or barriers you have faced in accessing higher education, and how your degree will change your future.
  • Evidence to support hardship outlined in written statement. This may include Centrelink or bank statement, statement from a medical professional, statutory declaration, or other relevant document.

Selection criteria

Applications are assessed on the strength of the following criteria:

  • Written statement
  • Demonstrated financial need or other hardship

In addition to the eligibility and selection criteria, the selection committee may give consideration to the diversity of the applicants.

Selection process

The recipient will be selected by the Scholarships Office.

Ongoing requirements

Recipients are required to submit a 100 word impact statement outlining how the Scholarship has assisted them. This may be used for the marketing program to promote the Creating Opportunity fund. The impact statement must be submitted to the Scholarships Office no later than 1 October. Students in receipt of an ongoing scholarship are required to submit an impact statement each year.

Students in receipt of an ongoing scholarship are required to maintain a minimum grade point average of at least 4.0 (Pass) in each semester.
