The Academic Skills Unit can help you build the underlying maths and literacy skills necessary for university study.

What is the Academic Skills Unit?

The Academic Skills Unit is a team of educational experts on each campus who can support you in your transition to university study and throughout your degree.

What does the Academic Skills Unit provide?

Our team can help you develop:

  • Study skills: Strong study skills lead to academic success. We can work with you to develop better time management strategies, learn to set study priorities and improve your planning and reading skills.
  • Academic writing skills: Writing is central to success in your assessment tasks. Explore the different kinds of writing required at university and find out ways to improve your own writing.
  • Academic referencing skills: Referencing is a complex, essential skill that new students may not bring with them to university. We can help you understand the different referencing systems used at ACU so you can be more confident in your assignment preparation.
  • Maths and numeracy skills: Maths plays an important role in your university learning, so it’s good to be proficient in the core concepts. We have many resources to help you build your numeracy knowledge.
  • Exam skills: Don’t let exam stress prevent you from doing your best. Our tools and tips can help you maximise your preparation time.
