Dr Mitchell Rom is a Quandamooka scholar who specialises in Indigenous education and Decolonial studies. Mitchell is descended from the Juno/Gonzales family. His work over the past 15 years has been dedicated to advancing Indigenous education. He is currently a Lecturer with the Institute for Positive Psychology and Education at Australian Catholic University (ACU).

Mitchell's work explores coloniality and decoloniality with a particular focus on education (including higher education). His research has attracted awards including the Australian Association for Research in Education (AARE) Betty Watts Award and his PhD thesis was nominated for the AARE Ray Debus Award.

Mitchell initially trained as a secondary English and History teacher and was registered with the Queensland College of Teachers. He completed his PhD at The University of Queensland. He also holds a Master of Education (Research), Graduate Certificate in Education Studies and Bachelor of Education from Griffith University as well as a Professional Certificate in Indigenous Research from the University of Melbourne. His PhD, underpinned by the Cultural Interface, focused on the key learning, teaching, institutional and national education policy (Australian Professional Standards for Teachers 1.4 and 2.4) challenges situated in Indigenous education at university. He is a previous Postdoctoral Research Fellow and has presented on topics such as "Decolonising the curriculum" for the Times Higher Education.

Mitchell is currently a Chief Investigator on Australian Research Council projects. He co-supervises PhD students/candidates. He is also a member of ACU's Indigenous Research Committee (Subcommittee of the University Research Committee), AARE and the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. Mitchell currently coordinates/facilitates Indigenous education (Masters) at ACU.
