Dr. Walayat Hussain is an Associate Professor and Head of the Information Technology and Systems Discipline. He brings over two decades of experience in academia and industry. Before joining ACU, he served as an Assistant Professor and Lecturer at Victoria University Melbourne, the University of Technology Sydney, and BUITEMS.
Dr. Hussain has successfully supervised thirteen research students as both principal and co-supervisor. He has published over 90 high-quality research papers, including several in top-ranked ERA-A*, A, and JCR/SJR Q1 journals. He has contributed to theory and application and developed a new algorithm combining OWA with Artificial Intelligence for making an optimal informed decision in complex systems. Currently, he serves as an Associate Editor for three international journals: IET Communications, International Journal of Web Information Systems, and Forecasting. Additionally, he has been a guest editor for more than 35 international journals, such as Computer Networks, IEEE TETCI, WCMC, IJCS, SOCA, IET Software, Expert Systems, and others.
Dr. Hussain has held key leadership roles in international conferences. He served as General Chair for the 7th EAI International Conference on IoT as a Service (IoTaaS 2021), held in Sydney, Australia (December 13-14, 2021). He was also General Co-Chair for the 3rd International Conference on MMCITARE (March 4-6, 2022) in India and Sydney, as well as the 3rd BiGIoT-EDU Conference (August 29-31, 2023) in China. Previously, he was Technical Program Committee Chair for the 2nd BiGIoT-EDU (July 29-31, 2022) in China.
Dr. Hussain is a Fellow of the European Alliance for Innovation (EAI), as well as a member of IEEE and the Australian Computer Society.
Throughout his career, Dr. Hussain has secured over $300,000 in research grants as Chief Investigator and Co-Investigator from national and international funding bodies. His contributions have earned him multiple awards and recognitions, including the National Research Award by the Government of Oman (2021), the VUBS Award for Excellence in Research (2022), the Best Paper Award at IoTaaS Australia (2021), and Best Paper Awards at 3PGCIC (2015, 2016) in Poland and South Korea. He also received the FEIT HDR Publication Award from UTS Australia in 2016.
