Stephan is an enthusiastic and dedicated mathematics teaching educator with 18 years of experience in the higher education sector preceded by 11 years of experience as a secondary mathematics teacher. He endeavours to model effective mathematics teaching principles by stimulating students' interest, critical thinking and engagement through applying Polya's problem-solving model in authentic contexts and the enhancing of students' metacognitive awareness. His aim is to support students in creating authentic student-centred learning environments which meet the needs of the diverse learners they will teach. Stephan is the coordinator of the Professional Experience Mentoring Program aimed at supporting students who were placed at-risk or failed their practicums. He teaches into Primary Mathematics content units, a Secondary Numeracy unit, professional experience units and a Junior Secondary Mathematics Curriculum, Assessment and Pedagogy units. He is the Primary Yr 4 course coordinator at Strathfield.
