Sandra is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing, Midwifery & Paramedicine, based in sunny Brisbane at the McAuley at Banyo campus.

Sandra is also a Research Fellow at the Nursing Research and Practice Development Centre, a collaborative partnership between the School of Nursing, Midwifery & Paramedicine ACU and The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane. The focus of her research is pressure injury prevention and falls injury prevention, comprising several projects and publications that influence clinical practice and accreditation outcomes, with one included as best practice for pressure injury by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care.

Sandra supervises PhD and BN Honours students, many of whom undertake a project within the Nursing Practice and Research Development Centre. Sandra supports postgraduate students studying and researching across various specialties. For 20 years she coordinated an open learning unit, the Program for Nurse Immunisers, preparing QLD RNs for semi-autonomous practice as Immunisation Practice Nurses.

Sandra's teaching and clinical expertise in neonatal, child and family nursing is recognised with credentials as a Children and Young People's Nurse. Sandra has teaching expertise in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, particularly for paediatric / child & adolescent health nursing.

In Sandra's PhD, she examined the effects of a daily sensory motor development program on children's cognition and development, using the research design of a cluster pragmatic, unblinded controlled trial. Sandra used the research approach of phenomenography in her Masters research, which sought to understand the phenomenon of clinical experience for postgraduate nurses studying paediatric and child health nursing. Sandra is keen to hear from any student interested in studying for a higher degree, particularly researching pressure injury and falls injury prevention, or studying within the specialty of neonatal, paediatric and child health nursing practice or research.
