Dr Oscar Modesto is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the Australian Catholic University and a registered psychologist with over 20 years of clinical and academic experience. He is an AHPRA board-approved supervisor and holds a Master of Family Therapy, having completed his undergraduate studies in Mexico.

His research focuses on the intersection of relationships, identity, and mental health, with particular expertise in LGBTQ+ wellbeing, attachment processes, and family dynamics. Dr Modesto’s work is grounded in qualitative, clinically informed approaches that centre lived experience and aim to inform inclusive, culturally responsive mental health practice. His research program spans caregiver experiences in early psychosis, relationship functioning, and the impact of social and cultural contexts on wellbeing.

Dr Modesto is deeply committed to student success and academic excellence. He actively contributes to the development of innovative curricula that reflect contemporary research and practice in psychology, and promotes a supportive, inclusive learning environment that fosters critical thinking, self-reflection, and cultural awareness in future practitioners.

Through his research, teaching, and partnerships with health services, Dr Modesto is committed to translating evidence into practice to improve psychological outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.
