Dr Mehdi Rajaeian is a Senior Lecturer in Information Technology in the Peter Faber Business School at Australian Catholic University. His research sits at the intersection of data science, decision support systems, information systems, design science research, systems theory, system dynamics, digital transformation, IT sourcing strategies, technology adoption, and the sociotechnical impacts of information technology. His recent work also extends into applied artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning benchmarking, financial technology, cyber-safety, and data-driven decision-making in business and education. He has published in leading Q1, A and A* journals, including Decision Support Systems, Information & Management, Journal of Enterprise Information Management, Journal of Engineering and Technology Management, and Journal of the Association for Information Systems. A central focus of his current research is the responsible and practical application of artificial intelligence, especially Generative and Agentic AI, across business domains, including project management, human resource management, operations, risk management, service innovation, and organisational decision-making, with an emphasis on how AI can enhance productivity, evidence-based decision-making, governance, and responsible digital transformation. His recent work also includes developing a systems-theoretical account of large language models and organisational reliance, drawing on systems theory to examine risks and validation mechanisms of Generative AI to safeguard institutional applications. He teaches across database design and implementation, data analytics and visualisation, data mining, big data, business intelligence, and AI-related business technology units. Dr Rajaeian has more than 20 years of academic experience in Australia and overseas, complemented by industry experience as a System Analyst, Developer and IT Project Manager. He completed a PhD in Information Systems at the University of Southern Queensland, an MBA and a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering at Sharif University of Technology, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education at Australian Catholic University.
