Additional information

This teaching area prepares preservice teachers to promote students’ physical, social and emotional wellbeing through health and physical education. It focuses on curriculum and pedagogical approaches that support active, healthy lifestyles, respectful relationships, and informed decision-making. Graduates will be equipped to design and deliver inclusive PDHPE programs that foster student wellbeing and engagement across school contexts.

Students in the following courses must complete:

  • Master of Teaching (Secondary)
  • Master of Teaching (Secondary) (Internship)
  • Master of Teaching (Secondary) (Leading Learning)
  • Master of Teaching (Secondary) /Graduate Certificate in Religious Education


  • 20-40 cp from Personal Development, Health and Physical Education Postgraduate Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment (CPA) units (Part A)

Schedule of unit offerings

Students who are studying Personal Development, Health and Physical Education as one of their two teaching areas will complete 20 credit points for their Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment units.

Students who are studying Personal Development, Health and Physical Education as their double teaching area will complete 40 credit points for their Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment units.

Part A.1 AND Part A.2

    Part A.1 : Junior Secondary CPA unit

    Complete 10 to 20 credit points from the following:

  • EDHP550Pedagogical Studies in HPE/PDHPE (7 to 10)10 CP

    Required unit

  • EDHP551Beyond the Classroom: Outdoor Education, Recreation and Leisure10 CP

    For students with teaching areas in Health and Physical Education who have already completed EDHP550.

  • Part A.2 : Senior Secondary CPA unit

    Complete 10 to 20 credit points from the following:

  • EDCU650Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment for Senior Studies 110 CP

    Study as part of the First Teaching Area

  • EDCU651Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment for Senior Studies 210 CP

    Study as part of the Second Teaching Area

  • EDCU652Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment for Senior Studies 310 CP

    Study as part of the Second Teaching Area
