The Earth and Environmental Science Teaching Area prepares future teachers to help students understand the dynamic processes that shape the Earth and influence environmental systems. It explores geology, climate science, ecosystems, natural resources and human impacts on the environment, while developing strong scientific inquiry skills. Preservice teachers learn how to design engaging, evidence‑based learning experiences that build students’ curiosity about the natural world and support informed, responsible decision‑making about environmental challenges.

Completion requirements

Students in the following courses must complete:

  • Master of Teaching (Secondary)
  • Master of Teaching (Secondary) (Internship)
  • Master of Teaching (Secondary) (Leading Learning)
  • Master of Teaching (Secondary) /Graduate Certificate in Religious Education


  • 20 cp from Earth and Environment Science Postgraduate Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment (CPA) units (Part A)

    For students with two Teaching Areas in Science-related areas who have already completed EDSI550.

  • Part A.2 : Senior Secondary CPA unit

    Complete exactly 10 credit points from the following:

    Study as part of the First Teaching Area

  • EDCU651Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment for Senior Studies 210 CP

    Study as part of the Second Teaching Area
