The Biology teaching area provides students with foundational knowledge of living systems and prepares them to teach Biology in secondary school contexts. Study in this teaching area focuses on key biological concepts including cells, genetics, physiology, biodiversity and ecosystems, with attention to the relationships between organisms and their environments.
The teaching area emphasises scientific inquiry, evidence‑based reasoning and the application of biological knowledge to contemporary issues relevant to secondary curricula. Students develop skills in laboratory practice, data interpretation and scientific communication that support effective teaching and learning in Biology.
Completion of the Biology teaching area prepares graduates to teach Biology across relevant secondary year levels in accordance with curriculum requirements and pedagogical expectations for the discipline.
