Admission requirements
An applicant must comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy, which includes meeting a minimum ATAR requirement and meeting the English Language Proficiency requirements.
In addition, applicants in Victoria will be required to demonstrate suitability for teaching.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent:

Definition
Major: 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at 100-level, at 30 cp at 200-level, and at 30 cp from 300-level.
Minor: 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at 100-level and at least 20 cp at 200- and/or 300-level.
Completion requirements
To qualify for the award, a student must complete 320 cp consisting of:
1.170 cp following the requirements of the Bachelor of Education degree, consisting of:
a. 50 cp from Education Studies units (Part A)
b. 60 cp from Effective Teaching units (Part B)
c. 20 cp from Secondary Curriculum units (Part C)
d. 40 cp from Secondary Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment (CPA) units, corresponding to the first and second teaching areas (Part D)
e. 0 cp from ACER Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education units (Part E)
2.150 cp following the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree, consisting of:
a.80 cp Arts Major available as First Teaching Areas (Part F)
b.40 cp Arts Minor available as Second Teaching Areas (Part G)
c. 10 cp from Community Engagement unit (Part H)
d.20 cp from Core Curriculum units (Part I)
Other requirements
Professional Experience Requirements:
Students must successfully complete all professional experience components, including those embedded within individual units.
Requirements for Working with Children:
All enrolled students must obtain the necessary approvals before entering a classroom. These include:
- Blue Card (Queensland)
- Working with Children Check (New South Wales and Victoria)
- International Students: Must provide police check documentation from their home country.
- National Police Check: May be required for placements in settings other than schools.
- Students with International Residency: Any student who has lived in another country for 12 months or more must supply a police check covering that period.
Exit points
A student who has completed the course requirements for the courses listed below may graduate with the corresponding qualification. However, none of these qualifications qualify the holder to teach in Australia.

A student who does not satisfy the LANTITE requirements may exit the course through an appropriate pathway, provided they meet the criteria for that award.
Progression requirements
Before enrolling in EDET100 Effective Teaching 1: Becoming a Teacher, students must have attempted the ACER Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education..
To be eligible to enrol in the third placement unit, EDET301 Effective Teaching 3: Engaging Learners and Managing Learning Environments, students must first complete both LNTE100 LANTITE – Literacy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students and LNTE101 LANTITE – Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students.
Students are required to follow the prescribed unit enrolment pattern outlined in the relevant Course Enrolment Guide, unless an alternative arrangement has been approved by the Course Adviser.
