Admission requirements

An applicant must comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy, which includes meeting a minimum ATAR requirement and meeting the English Language Proficiency requirements.

In addition, applicants in Victoria will be required to demonstrate suitability for teaching.

Admission Requirements for the 'All Points to Teaching' program

To be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) 'All Points to Teaching' program, an applicant is required to meet employment-based criteria for the 'All Points to Teaching' program in addition to the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) course entry requirements.

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level or equivalent:

Definition

First Teaching Area:

Students must complete 60 credit points (cp) of prescribed units within a selected Major that:

  • Includes two corresponding curriculum units available in the program.
  • Is recognised as a teaching area by the relevant state jurisdiction for teacher registration.


The 60 cp consists of six units, ensuring:

  • No more than two units are at first-year level.
  • At least two units are at third-year level.
  • Compliance with any additional jurisdictional requirements for recognition as a first teaching area.


Second Teaching Area:

Students must complete 40 credit points (cp) of prescribed units within a selected Major or Minor that:

  • Includes two corresponding curriculum units available in the program.
  • Is recognised as a teaching area by the relevant state jurisdiction for teacher registration.

The 40 cp consists of four units, ensuring:

  • No more than two units are at first-year level.
  • Compliance with any additional jurisdictional requirements for recognition as a second teaching area.

Other requirements

Professional Experience Requirements:

must successfully complete all professional experience components, including those embedded within individual units.

Requirements for Working with Children:

All enrolled students must obtain the necessary approvals before entering a classroom. These include:

  • Blue Card (Queensland)
  • Working with Vulnerable People Registration (Australian Capital Territory)
  • Working with Children Check (New South Wales, and Victoria)
  • International Students: Must provide police check documentation from their home country.
  • National Police Check: May be required for placements in settings other than schools.
  • Students with International Residency: Any student who has lived in another country for 12 months or more must supply a police check covering that period.


Enrolment Requirements:

Students must follow the prescribed unit enrolment pattern outlined in the relevant Course Enrolment Guide unless alternative arrangements have been approved by the Course Adviser.

Exit points

A student who has completed the course requirements for the courses listed below may graduate with the corresponding qualification. However, none of these qualifications qualify the holder to teach in Australia.

  2. Diploma in Educational Studies (Tertiary Preparation)
  3. Bachelor of Educational Studies
  4. Undergraduate Certificate in Liberal Arts
  5. Diploma in Liberal Arts

A student who does not meet the LANTITE requirements may access an appropriate exit point if they meet the requirements of that award.

Progression requirements

Before enrolling in EDET100 Effective Teaching 1: Becoming a Teacher, students must have attempted the ACER Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education..

To be eligible to enrol in the third placement unit, EDET301 Effective Teaching 3: Engaging Learners and Managing Learning Environments, students must first complete both LNTE100 LANTITE – Literacy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students and LNTE101 LANTITE – Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students.

Students are required to follow the prescribed unit enrolment pattern outlined in the relevant Course Enrolment Guide, unless an alternative arrangement has been approved by the Course Adviser.
