Unit rationale, description and aim

This unit introduces students to the law relating to social security, tenancy, public housing, criminal injuries compensation and domestic violence. The unit equips students with the practical skills they need to solve problems which affect many ordinary citizens. The unit encourages students to critically appraise the policies that underpin laws relating to welfare. Students will develop their skills in statutory interpretation, legal analysis and reasoning, and argumentation. Students will learn about the state and non-state institutions involved in processing and determining welfare law cases.
